The repercussions of urbanization in East Asia
are evident in all spheres of visual arts. The
various issues and phenomena have sparked new
interpretations of and visions for the city.
The exhibition focuses on video art works and
documentaries created in the 21st century in
order to elucidate how artists are examining
new ways to understand the everyday life in
the city. The multiple perspectives from Hong
Kong, Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Taipei
illuminate the shared concerns and hopes of
the urbanites and artists alike.
Kaupungistumisen vaikutukset ovat muokanneet
visuaalisia taiteita merkittävästi
Itä-Aasiassa. Lukuisat kysymykset ja ilmiöt
ovat inspiroineet uusia tulkintoja ja
näkemyksiä kaupungeista. Videotaideteosten ja
dokumenttien kautta näyttely tuo esille kuinka
taiteilijat etsivät uusia tapoja ymmärtää
elämää kaupungissa. Eri näkökulmat
Hongkongista, Pekingistä, Tokiosta, Soulista
ja Taipeista valaisevat taiteilijoiden ja
kaupunkilaisten jaettuja huolia ja toiveita.
