Current research
I am currently a university researcher working in the Dynamical Meteorology group in the Division of Atmospheric Sciences.
My research covers a broad area but specific topics of interest are:
- Dynamics of mesoscale phenomena, such as fronts
- The interaction of mesoscale and synoptic-scale systems with the atmospheric boundary layer
- The representation of boundary layer processes in numerical weather prediction models
- Climatologies of fronts
- The relationship between cold fronts and density currents
- Synoptic-scale weather systems
The tools that I use for my research include
- Mesoscale models, for example the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model
- Observations from the Helsinki Testbed
- Global circulation models such as OpenIFS
