Current research

I am currently a university researcher working in the Dynamical Meteorology group in the Division of Atmospheric Sciences.

My research covers a broad area but specific topics of interest are:
  • Dynamics of mesoscale phenomena, such as fronts
  • The interaction of mesoscale and synoptic-scale systems with the atmospheric boundary layer
  • The representation of boundary layer processes in numerical weather prediction models
  • Climatologies of fronts
  • The relationship between cold fronts and density currents
  • Synoptic-scale weather systems

The tools that I use for my research include
  • Mesoscale models, for example the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model
  • Observations from the Helsinki Testbed
  • Global circulation models such as OpenIFS
