Note: Current molecular phylogenetic analysis consistently render genus Martes paraphyletic, inserting Gulo between Pekania and rest of the marten-species. Thus I have decided to treat Pekania and Charronia as valid genera to maintain monophyletic Martes. This contradicts numerous other taxonomic sources (e.g. Mammal Species of the World) in which Pekania and Charronia are treated as subgenera of Marten.
