The slow founding process of the SereNuts began in 1986, while two of the Nuts were on a choir tournee in Pecs, Hungary. One cold day, the fellows were buying underwear of local fashion at the market square of Pecs and decided to sing a serenade to the girl behind the sales counter. After the song she gave the singers their money back, sobbed and whispered in her broken English: "I lof serenuts!" That was the moment of birth of the SereNuts male quartett.
It took 9 more years until the SereNuts found the two missing nuts and started the real artistic work in 1995. That is when the "cash flow" and the increasing number of fans required a more organized form for the operation of the SereNuts: Societa per la Rinacita dell'Arte della Serenata in Finlandia (Serenadilaulun Perinneseura ry.) was founded. The same year the SereNuts were also accepted as members of CASA, the Contemporary A Cappella Society of America, as its first and so far the only Finnish vocal ensemble.
During 1996, the SereNuts have, besides developing the traditional serenade repertoire, made an extensive effort in broadening the concept of "serenade" by finding hidden serenadian elements in all kinds of music, including Modest Moussorgskis orchestral works, Swiss yoddles and South American folk songs.
