Workshop on

Comparison of static chambers to measure N2O, CH4 and CO2 fluxes from soils

In continuation of the chamber calibration campaign a 3-day workshop will be held at the Danish Forestry College located in Nødebo 40 km north of Copenhagen

Duration:  15 - 17 December 2008

Location: Danish Forestry College, Nødebo, Denmark

NEW: presentations of the workshop – AVAILABLE

Petra Kroon

Jukka Pumpanen

The forestry college is a school that teaches in practical aspects of forestry and gardening. The college is located next to Esrum sø with Gribskov, Denmarks largest forest, as the backyard. Visit the homepage of Forest & Landscape Denmark (www.sl.life.ku.dk) and get more information about the organisation and venue place. Explore the area in Google maps: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=N%C3%B8debovej+77A&sll=55.990701,12.299709&sspn=0.069227,0.153809&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=16&iwloc=addr

The workshop is a joint meeting for the participants of the calibration campaign and other researchers interested in chamber measurements of greenhouse gases.

The workshop will consist of talks by invited speakers and participants of the chamber calibration campaign to summarise and discuss the results obtained during the measurement campaign. The discussions thus deal with a wide range of topics concerning chamber types, sampling of gas and calculation of fluxes from static chambers. Group work sessions will address the topics of chamber designs, error sources in measurements and future common chamber designs. Participants are encouraged to prepare a short presentation (5 min) of their work as well as a poster for the poster session.

Download the scientific background for workshop here.

The invited speakers are:

·         Dr. Petra Kroon from the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands, The Netherlands

·         Dr. Nicolas Brüggemann from the Institute for Meteorology and Climate Research, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany - CANCELLED

·         Dr. Jukka Pumpanen from the Department of Forest Ecology, University of Helsinki, Finland

Outcome

·         The workshop will provide ideas and solutions to…

…design an ideal static chamber for N2O and CH4 flux measurement?

…minimize errors in static chamber measurement and sampling?

…obtain a compromise between low cost chambers vs. high tech chambers?

·         We also expect of the workshop to bring forward ideas for common chamber design across Europe?
