I was born in Helsinki in 1951. My father's family comes from the Heinola rural district and my mother's ancestries are Karelian. I graduated from the Helsinki Lyceum ("Ressu") in 1970 and thereafter studied at the universities of Helsinki and Oulu. I have certificated a D.Sc. and a PhLic degree in food technology and physics, respectively, and have a master's degree in biophysics. I am a trained and qualified teacher of physics, mathematics and chemistry and have also teached information technology in upper secondary school and university. Across the years, since the teenage, I have been a runner, by dint of my nature.
