Mikael Granvik
I’m a planetary scientist affiliated with both the Luleå University of Technology in Sweden and the University of Helsinki in Finland.
My main research interests are
•population-level characteristics such as orbital and size-frequency distributions for near-Earth objects (NEOs),
•NEO source regions in the asteroid belt,
•understanding the mechanism that leads asteroids to disrupt at nontrivial distances from the Sun,
•the detectability of temporarily-captured, natural Earth satellites (AKA minimoons) with current (Subaru HSC) and future (LSST, spacecraft) assets,
•development of Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods for orbit computation, particularly in the context of Gaia,
•asteroid mass estimation through orbital perturbations in the context of large surveys.
I’m a member of the Solar System Science Collaboration for LSST as well as of the Gaia Data Processing and Analysis Consortium (Gaia DPAC) and the Euclid Consortium.
