As part of the Optics of Photosynthesis lab, we operate several drones with trees as our main targets. See anything that interests you? Then drop me an email for a chat about working together or access to data.
Drones
DJI Matrice 600 Pro [hyperpspectral imaging + SIF]
This is a relatively large drone capable of operating in the C3 (legacy) class i.e., sparsely populated areas. We have two main payloads for this, a Senop HSC-2 Hyperspectral camera and a Piccolo-Doppio SIF spectrometer system. The image below shows the drone preparing for take-off at the Hyytiälä forest station with the hyperspectral camera on board.

DJI Mavic 3 Multispectral
This is a great little drone that we use as the lab workhorse. It has RTK GPS, and in addition to the multispectral camera it also has a decent RGB camera. We have recently characterised the cameras on this in terms of spectral response, radiometry and flat field.

DJI Mavic 3 Thermal
A new arrival for 2024. If you work at the University of Helsinki or a nearby institute, and are interested in using this for your masters or PhD studies then get in touch.
Parrot ANAFI
A fun little drone that has the ability to shoot RGB looking upwards. Available for internal projects straight away.

Ground measurements
Our strong point is our ability to link drone data to plant traits. OPL has the expertise and equipment to measure plant photosynthesis, pigments, fluorescence, plant structure, spectroscopy etc needed to interpret drone data. The below image shows a basic setup for measuring leaf optical properties - lights off for measuring :)
