Document 4: Application No. 19236 from 1913 for a ‘Biograph’

Eric Magnus Campbell Tigerstedt
I 1936 II/42 g.

Biograph

This invention concerns a biograph, which is equipped with a speaking device and built in such a way that it can be set up on a table. The new arrangement is suitable especially for study purposes. It is represented in the drawing ((Illustration)) in an example for application.

A box c carries a matt glass pane d, behind which – between an objective e and a condenser f a film g is passed along, which carries on the one hand sound waves and on the other images. Behind the condenser, there is a light source h and before the film g there is a selenium cell i, which is set into the circuit of a telephone m. To this, listening tubes n are attached. The film is carried on reels b and c. During the demonstration of the tape, images are projected before the objective onto the matt screen d and on the other hand, the sound waves onto the selenium cell so that simultaneously images and sound are projected.

The two film reels are powered in the usual way through an engine o.

A special film band and a special sound band may be used if, for example, the film is moved forward in chunks.

The new arrangement may, for example, be turned into an automated machine and set up in restaurants.
