Vigs{\o} Feriecenter, Denmark, August 14-20, 1995
The Theoretical Astroparticle Network (TAN) supported by the European Community is organizing a Summer School followed by a mini-Workshop on topical issues in astroparticle physics. Additional funding from Nordita allows some room for Nordic participation outside of the TAN-network. The meeting takes place at the Vigs{\o} Feriecenter near Hanstholm in Northwest Jutland, Denmark. The location is very close to the Thisted Airport, and about an hour from the Aalborg Airport. Both airports are served from Copenhagen, Aalborg most frequently. We expect to arrange group transportation to and from the Aalborg Airport. School activities will commence in the evening of Monday, August 14; the Workshop starts in the evening of Thursday, August 17 and ends in the evening of Saturday, August 19, allowing participants to return Sunday morning while still obeying the weekend rules of most reduced airfares. Apart from meeting facilities, the center situated a 10 minute walk from the beach offers indoor swimming pools, sauna, tennis, table tennis, billiard, etc. Students will be accommodated in double rooms (two rooms with additional kitchen facilities and living room constitutes a house). Senior participants can be accommodated in single rooms at an additional cost. Participation in School+Workshop will cost approximately 4000 Danish kroner in a double room, including full board, and approximately 2000 Danish kroner for the School or Workshop alone. Special arrangements can be made for participants wishing to bring their family and/or wishing to add a vacation before or after the meeting. Some funding is available to support the participation of PhD-students and postdocs, and special funding can be applied for by young Nordic researchers.
The Summer School is intended for PhD-students and postdocs from the Network and Nordic countries. There will be pedagogical lectures reviewing topical issues in astroparticle physics, together with informal discussion sessions in the afternoons. The lecturers are: Rocky Kolb, Chicago, Introduction to Cosmic Inflation; Robert Malaney, Toronto, Primordial Nucleosynthesis; Joel Primack, Santa Cruz, Dark Matter and Structure Formation (tentative); Georg Raffelt, Munich, Particle Astrophysics and Stars.
The discussion leaders are Kari Enqvist and Jes Madsen. Some time is also allotted for the students to give short seminars (15 min.) on their research. After the school, there will be a workshop, for which the students may also attend. PhD-students and postdocs wishing to participate should apply by April 30, 1995, using the attached Application Form. As the number of participants is limited to about 30, we encourage applicants to include a description of the schools relevance for their present and future studies and research, as well as the (e-mail)address of their supervisor or other person whom we may contact for further information.
Immediately following the Summer School, there is an informal Workshop for which we would like to invite the people associated with the TAN Network to attend. There is also room for some Nordic participation, for which funding is also available. Altogether, in addition to the students and the lecturers, we have room for some 20 people. We plan to have short talks, 30 minutes maximum, with ample time provided for discussions. Please let us know if you wish to attend by April 30, preferably by e-mail.
