Information Behaviour and Strategic Collaboration Networks (IBSCoNet)

The aim of the research project is to define the conceptual base for a theory of information behaviour in relation to management of information and knowledge within the context of strategic collaboration of networked enterprises. The foundation is based on the framework of Normann & Ramírez (1994) and the value constellation concept (Huotari, 2000). The purpose is to elaborate further the conceptual base of the proposed theory. It has been strengthened with Chatman’s everyday-life information-seeking (ELIS) theory along with the concepts from social network theory (Huotari & Chatman, 2001) to increase understanding of organizational information behaviour. Moreover, the concept of a strategic partnership has been added (Huotari & Iivonen, 2001, 2004c, 2005a) including the concepts of social capital and trust (Huotari & Iivonen, 2004a, 2004b, 2005b).

The ideas are utilized in two subprojects. A PhD-research focusing on mobile work, document management and collective memory is in progress in the Department of Information Studies, the University of Tampere (Mäkinen & Huotari, 2004) (see http://www.info.uta.fi/tutkimus/regim/projects). A research project applying the idea of joint value creation of networked enterprises is under work at the University of Oulu (see http://oci.suomi.net/OuluConstructionInnovations/inEnglish.htm).
