I am a linguist. At present (2009–2012), I am working at the Department of General Linguistics at the University of Helsinki as a postdoctoral researcher for the project The coding of R (Recipient/Goal) arguments: Cross-linguistic, Uralic, diachronic and experimental perspectives funded by the Academy of Finland.
In the few past years, my research has concentrated on Saami languages. My PhD dissertation is a description of the morphology, syntax and semantics of the non-finite verb forms in North Saami. In addition to Saami, I have also done research on other Uralic (Finno-Ugric) languages, viz. the Finnic languages Finnish and Veps and the Permic languages Komi and Udmurt, all of which are spoken in the northern parts of Europe. My current interests include functions and origins of local case suffixes in Finnic and other Uralic languages, as well as some of the peculiarities of Saami inflectional and derivational morphology. I also intend to publish some etymological remarks on these languages.
I am also the editor of the Journal de la Société Finno-Ougrienne.
