Yess, this is it!! No words are necessary ... (mutta katso hiihtoa
koskevat luvut kirjasta Maratonmiehen
elämä)
Cross country skiing in good conditions with good equipment is the
best I know as sport. And it is very age-friendly: good technique and equipment
easily eliminates the age-and condition differentials, whereas in running
this is not so.
The following text is about how to ski to work in Helsinki! There are not many capitals in the world where it is possible to ski to work in the center of the city. Even though we don't have polar bears walking around on the streets.Just come to Helsinki and try it!
Päivän vinkin taustaa: jos
satut asumaan Keskuspuiston lähistöllä ja työpaikkasi
on keskustassa alueella Kallio, Töölö, Pasila, Kruunuhaka,
ydinkeskusta, niin voit suorittaa työmatkasi vaivatta suksilla juuri
nyt (helmi-maaliskuun vaihteessa)
Lunta on riittävästi, ladut loistavassa kunnossa (vaikka
Uskokaa
pois ja koettakaa itse!
I have run close to 50 marathons and innumerable other shorter races.
I used to be relatively good and in my best condition (around 4 min/km
pace) I should easily have run a marathon in 3 hours, but this was
not to happen due to some stupid accidents and tactical errors. Now I use
about 4 hours and more, and do not run more than one (at most two) marathons
per year. But I prefer shorter distance, like the Broloppet ....

I am one of the Finnish pioneers in inline rollerskating. When I
got my first Switch-it skates (used until they broke down) there were extremely
few people skating on the streets (and nobody sold them). Skating became
popular very quickly because it looked so nice and easy. For me it is and
was mainly a form of summer ski training, even though I used it also to
get to work from time to time. Later I took to using sticks, also well
before stick-walking (sauvakävely) became popular. Nowadays I mostly
ski with rollerskis, using classical technique. This can be done in the
Helsinki central park, on soft surface and it comes very close to the real
thing. But not quite.
I have not had any major accidents, just fallen a few times, once at
high speed, but saved by my backbag. But it is clear that rollerskating
on the streets IS rather dangerous and I have come to prefer less risky
forms of sport (such as the the spark rollers, which you can just jump
off, if you start to fall, or must stop quickly). But my son Ariel is already
very good and we do skate together from time to time.

I believe that psycho-analysis is mostly useless and sometimes dangerous,
definitely non-scientific and is based on fraud AND Freud. The danger and
harm comes mainly from the idea that a person's childhood is to blame for
his problems, and that the person rperesses unpleasant thoughts in his
unconscious, to be discovered with the help of the psychoanalysis, and
thirdly, that therapy and medical treatment are to be understood as alternatives,
so that pills should be avoided. That is, psychoanalysis produces unnecessary
blame, false memories and prevents healing with medicine.
For a social scientist like me, the interesting thing is, why psycho
analysis is still so popular, especially among social scientists ...
